A Fin24 user wants to know how to better his chances to get government funding. He writes:
My name is Chris and I am a 24-year-old director of a web and graphic design startup.
I have been struggling to get funding for my business for about a year now. We were advised to get BEE accredited for better opportunities and we did; however, that did not prove to be fruitful at all.
Can you please give us advice on which procedures to follow, so that we could stand a better chance of getting funding support from the government?
Business development consultant Anton Ressel responds:
My first question would be: why do you need government funding in the first place? Be careful of using an inability to raise free money as a reason to be paralysed.
The best source of funding is the income you generate through the provision of goods and services.
Our entrepreneurial levels are among the worst in the world, primarily because the availability of free money and government grants has made us think we cannot succeed without them.
You could try the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa) as a possible source of funds, but my advice is to just do your thing and do it well; success is then inevitable.
