From school dropout to running Web Africa

Cape Town - Rupert Bryan was a high school dropout whose love for the internet allowed him to morph into co-founder of one of South Africa's leading internet service providers.

He is part of Fin24's Young South Africans with a Difference series.

In a studio interview Bryant, co-founder and chief operating officer of Web Africa, said he was 10 years old when he fell in love with the internet and started building websites for "anyone that would let him", but he soon realised web hosting makes much better business sense.

"I left school when I was 14... decided (school) wasn't for me... my family was never really well off, so another aspect that was quite important was that I had to take care of myself financially."

He ran his own, successful small business for three years before hooking up with Matthew Tagg to co-found Web Africa, which specialises in broadband and hosting services.

He encourages other potential entrepreneurs to find their passion, educate themselves and find good people they can work with, "who can really drive you and make yourself a better person".
