Cape Town - South Africa can improve the quality of leadership by investing in leadership training for young people, according to Associate Professor Mills Soko, new director of the UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB).
Soko, who took over the directorship from Professor Geoff Bick, told Fin24 that improving the quality of leadership is one way to overcome corruption in the country. Another way, he suggests, is to invest in building and strengthening public institutions.
"We must work hard to enable our leaders to understand that there are consequences for poor leadership and consequences for poor governance. So, accountability is very important," said Soko.
"I have been provided the opportunity to lead Africa's top business school. I want to use my role as director of the UCT GSB to steer it to its next phase of growth and success."
One of his priorities would be to expand the UCT GSB's footprint on the African continent and strengthen relationships with other African schools as well as companies operating in Africa.
