Cape Town - Dr Mampho Modise has been appointed deputy director general of public finance in the National Treasury, Cabinet announced on Thursday.
She fills the role left by Dondo Mogajane, who was appointed director general of Treasury this year after Lungisa Fuzile’s departure.
Modise is chief director of strategy and risk management at National Treasury, dealing with policy issues, according to her biography on a site linked to Old Mutual.
Modise has a BCom Economics, a BCom Honours Econometrics, an MCom Econometrics (cum laude) and a PhD in economics.
She started working for the South African Reserve Bank in 2004 as an intern, progressing to the position of economist.
She left the bank in 2009 to work for National Treasury, where she started as a senior economist in the economic policy unit. She was soon promoted to director of fiscal policy, then to chief director of strategy and risk management, where she is currently working.
