Samsa head resigns suddenly

Cape Town - The executive head of the SA Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa) has resigned with immediate effect, Netwerk24 reported on Tuesday.

The operational head, Sobantu Tilayi, will take over from Tsietsi Mokhele, who has held the position since January 2008.

According to Samsa spokesperson Tebogo Ramatjie, it is not yet clear how the division of work would take place, but there should be more clarity on Wednesday.

It is not known why Mokhele resigned or what his future plans are. He obtained a degree in seafaring in Russia and was involved with the port authority in the past.

Tilayi is a qualified engineer and was appointed in the position of operations manager in 2012. He also worked at Transnet.
