Johannesburg - South Africa's manufacturing output expanded 2.2% year-on-year in August, above expectations, after contracting a revised 0.3% in July, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis, factory production was down 1% but edged up 0.1% in the three months to August compared with the previous three months.
Economists polled by Reuters forecast a 1.3% year-on-year increase in manufacturing volumes.
