Johannesburg - Inflation in April came down to 5.3%, from 6.1% reported in March.
This is according to data released by Statistics South Africa on Wednesday.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased from 1.5 percentage points in March to 1.1 percentage points in April. Compared to the previous year, it increased 6.7%.
Similarly, transport decreased from 1.1 percentage points in March to 0.7 percentage points in April. However the index increased 4.6% for the year.
Miscellaneous goods and services decreased from 1.2 percentage points in March to 1.1 percentage points in April. It increased by 7.3% for the year.
The consumer price index for services increased by 5.5% for the year, up from 5.4% reported in March.
