Holomisa calls for economic transformation indaba

Cape Town - Bantu Holomisa, UDM leader, believes an economic transformation indaba will help South Africans find a binding consensus on macro economic policy.

“One of this country’s credits is its ability to resolve challenges through dialogues,” Holomisa said during a debate of President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address. “We should borrow from Codesa (negotiations) that delivered political liberation to South Africa.”

He also appealed to government to give immediate attention to the security of workers’ pensions by investigating the workings of the Public Investment Corporation. “The PIC does questionable deals and we suggest that an independent forum monitor the PIC’s investments and audit the usage of money.”

In January, Holomisa filed a complaint with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela asking her to investigate allegations that money from the PIC was channelled to the ANC to pay for the party’s birthday celebrations.

In his speech, Holomisa, who has paid a number of visits to the mining community of Marikana since the killing of mineworkers in 2012, also insisted that a task team, headed by a retired judge investigate all the complaints from ex-mineworkers who are not receiving their rightful pension money.
