Cape Town - Epic Foods on Friday denied engaging in any conduct of an anti-competitive nature, following a raid by the Competition Commission.
"Epic Foods management and staff takes these allegations very seriously and will continue to operate with the utmost honest, integrity and proficiency," the company said in a statement.
"We have and as always will continue to co-operate with the Competition Commission and their current investigation until its finality."
The search and seizure operation on Thursday was conducted at five companies, which included Wilmar Continental Edible Oils and Fats, DH Brothers Industries (Willowton Oil and Cake Mills), FR Waring Holdings and Africa Sun Oil Refineries.
They are suspected to have engaged in cartel conduct, which included price-fixing for the manufacture and distribution of refined edible oils, baking fats and margarine.
“The alleged conduct is believed to have started before 2007 and is still on-going,” said Competition Commission Commissioner Tembinkosi Bonakele.
