BMF hails Fakude's appointment as Anglo SA board chair

The Black Management Forum has applauded Nolitha Fakude's appointment as chair of Anglo American's management board in South Africa.

It was announced last week that Fakude would be stepping down as a non-executive director of the board at the end of August in order to take up the new role as of September 1. Fakude also previously served on the board of South African Airways, where she resigned last year.

In a statement, BMF president Andile Nomlala said Fakude's track record in the BMF was evidence of her leadership capability.

Empowerment

"As the first woman president of the BMF, she put gender equality at the forefront of her presidency and ensured that the constitution of the BMF reflected and was infested with the necessity of empowering women," said Nomlala.

Nomlala said the role Fakude played in the Sasol Group Partnership Forum during her tenure with the company was recognised for improving industrial relations in a trade union environment.

"Under her direction, Sasol drove the landmark broad-based black economic empowerment transaction, Sasol Inzalo," Nomlala said.
