Business is pleased that President Jacob Zuma's second State of the Nation address will be delivered in the evening, Business Unity SA said on Tuesday.
"Business has for a long time been concerned about loss of productivity that arises as a result of a proliferation of national events and public holidays," it said in statement.
"We are thus pleased that the 11th will be a full working day for business and Parliamentarians. This is more so, given the potential number of days which we are going to lose during the 2010 FIFA World Cup."
The decision showed "the president's commitment to enhancing national competitiveness" as the country slowly emerged from recession.
Busa chief executive Jerry Vilakazi was eager to hear further announcements which would help improve economic activity.
He called on South Africans to follow Zuma's lead by seeking ways to improve the efficiency of the country's economy.
On Monday, officials announced that the opening of Parliament next month would take place in the evening for the first time in the history of the legislature.
The delivery of Zuma's address at dusk would enable more South Africans, especially workers, school children and students, to follow the message on television, officials said.
