Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has urged Norway to invest in Africa, particularly in energy security to boost economic growth.
Norway has the capacity and resources to make a significant contribution to the green economy, he said in a speech prepared for delivery in Norway's capital Oslo on Thursday.
"Norway can play a major role in investing in Africa's energy security, the green economy and climate change."
South African companies wanted to partner with Norwegian businesses in the oil and gas, environment and marine technology, innovation and knowledge-based industries.
Zuma was encouraged by progress in trade relations between both countries, noting a significant growth increase driven by exports.
In 2007, South Africa became a net exporter to Norway.
Zuma said the two countries enjoyed strong historical relations and were fostering closer economic ties.
"Our relations today hold significant promise for the growth of economic relations and cooperation in key economic areas for the development of South Africa and the African continent.
"Norway understands Africa's developmental needs [and] has already contributed to the empowerment and uplifting of the living standards of many of our South African people."
