Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma appointed members to the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC), the president's office announced in a statement on Thursday.
The appointments were made in terms of section 221(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, read with sections 5(1) and 8 of the Financial and Fiscal Commission Act, 1997 (Act No. 99 of 1997).
The three people are Sipho Lubisi, Gilingwe Mayende and Sibongile Muthwa.
Lubisi is a former Mpumalanga health MEC and speaker of the
provincial legislature. Mayende is a former director general for the
national land affairs department while Muthwa is a deputy
vice-chancellor at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
"We congratulate these members on their new roles and we are certain
that they will serve the Commission to the best of their abilities,"
said Zuma.
They will serve on the commission for a period of five years, with effect from 28 July 2014.
The FFC is an independent and permanent expert commission that advises and makes recommendations to Parliament, provincial legislatures, local government and other organs of state on financial and fiscal matters.
