Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has departed for Davos, Switzerland to attend to the 40th Annual General Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held from 27-31 January 2010 under the theme "Improve the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild".
The President will stop over in Tripoli, Libya to have a consultation with the chairperson of the African Union, His Excellency Colonel Muammar Gaddafi on Monday and then proceed to Davos.
At the Davos meeting, Zuma will be accompanied by National Planning Commission Minister, Trevor Manuel, Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, Economic Development Minister, Ebrahim Patel, Trade and Industry Minister, Rob Davies as well as Water and environmental Affairs Minister, Buyelwa Sonjica.
In view of the strong 2010 FIFA World Cup promotion focus, the overall theme driving South Africa's participation in the WEF, Davos, 2010, is "Experience South Africa".
The President will promote South Africa as a destination, and will assure international audiences that the country is ready to host the world cup in all respects.
On conclusion of his working visit in Davos, Zuma will depart for Ethiopia to attend the African Union Summit, accompanied by amongst others, Minister of International Relations Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and Communications Ministers, Siphiwe Nyanda. The Summit will run from the 30th of January to the 2nd of February.
