Washington - The World Bank announced Wednesday it was resuming talks with the Democratic Republic of Congo on funding for a major hydroelectric power plant.
The talks were suspended in mid-February due to unrest in the Central African nation.
The bank is reviewing a proposal for a $73m loan to build the Inga III facility on the Congo River, and is expected to greenlight it at a March 20 meeting, said spokesperson David Theis.
Theis said the project "has the potential to improve the lives of millions of Africans in the DRC and elsewhere in Africa with affordable clean energy."
The updated project plans call for a "flexible government-led, transparent process," he added.
The project, with a total cost of $12bn, has fueled concern.
