Cape Town - The volume of goods transported (payload) increased by 3.6% in February 2015 compared with February 2014. The corresponding income rose by 4.2% over the same period, Statistics SA reported on Monday.
Income from freight transportation increased by 5.2% in the three months ended February 2015 compared with the three months ended February 2014. The main contributors to this increase were:
- primary mining and quarrying products (16.8% and contributing 5.8 percentage points); and
- agriculture and forestry primary products (20.2% and contributing 1.5 percentage points).
The number of passenger journeys decreased by 5.8% in February 2015 compared with February 2014. The corresponding income went up by 1.6% over the same period.
