Johannesburg - Public service unions will finalise their talks on the government's wage offer by Friday, public service spokesperson Dumisani Nkwamba said.
"Government today (Monday) met with labour at a special sitting of the Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) as the 21-working-day notice of the suspension of the strike lapses today," Nkwamba said in a statement.
Unions would finalise their consultations by Friday and report back to the bargaining council.
The government signed a draft 7.5% wage agreement on September 13. According to PSCBC regulations this would expire on October 12.
Nkwamba earlier told Sapa the government remained hopeful public service unions would sign its wage offer.
Public servants around the country went on strike for around three weeks last month, with a higher increase of 8.6% and a R1 000 housing allowance among their demands.
When the government presented a revised draft offer on September 6, unions said they needed to think about it.
According to Public Servants' Association spokesperson Manie de Clercq, they had until October 12 to accept.
