Johannesburg - Public sector unions and government are meeting on Monday following the expiry of the 21-day deadline set for unions to decide on the wage deal.
Government signed the agreement on September 13 and gave unions 21 days from then to consult their members on its wage offer.
Lebo Mafokofi, spokesperson for the public service and administration department, said the parties were still holding discussion at the Public Sector Central Bargaining Chamber (PSCBC) at 16:30 following the expiry of the 21 days.
Mafokofi said unions are supposed to inform government today (Monday) about their collective decision, whether to sign the wage agreement or not.
In terms of the draft wage agreement, government has offered a 7.5% wage increase and an R800 housing allowance.
There are clauses in the draft agreement that reassure workers in essential services such as nursing that they will not be dismissed for misconduct and for taking part in the strike, which began on August 18 and was suspended on September 6.
