Johannesburg - No solution to the wage dispute between truck drivers and the Road Freight Employers Association (RFEA) was found during Tuesday night's talks, the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) said.
"No solution was found. Nothing was put on the table..." said spokesperson Zenzo Mahlangu.
"We will begin talks again at 10:00 today while the strikers march."
He said he was expecting between 10 000 and 12 000 striking workers to participate in the march in downtown Johannesburg on Wednesday.
The RFEA was not immediately available for comment.
An estimated 65 000 workers downed tools on Monday over annual wage increases, with violent demonstrations erupting on Monday and reports of intimidation surfacing on the second day.
The four unions involved were the Transport and Allied Workers Union of SA, the Professional Transport Workers Union, Satawu, and the Motor Transport Workers Union (MTWU).
The unions are demanding a 20% increase allocated over a two-year period, for example 10% in 2011 and 10% in 2012.
The RFEA was offering an increase of 7.5% across the board for 2011 and a further 7.% increase for 2012.
All four unions said they would negotiate on the 10% increase, but would not easily go below 8.5%.
