Johannesburg - Trade deficit narrowed more than expected to R6.57bn in May, from a R13.03bn shortfall in April, data from the South African Revenue Service showed on Monday.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a trade gap of R12.5bn for May.
Exports rose by 0.6% to R78.36bn, while imports decreased by 5.9% to R84.93bn.
The latest data brings the cumulative deficit for 2014 to R47.13bn compared with R34.56bn over the same period in 2013.
