Johannesburg - The broad South African business
community has given the thumbs up to the appointment of Daniel Mminele as the
new deputy governor of the central bank.
CEO of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Neren Rau, said:
"The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) congratulates
deputy governor Mminele on his appointment. His experience in financial markets
will no doubt strengthen further an already strong top management team at the
bank.
"In a time when our country desperately needs strong leadership to lead us
out of the current financial crisis, Deputy governor Mminele is well placed to
play a key role. Sacci looks forward to a strong relationship with deputy
governor Mminele and the bank as we pursue the national economic interest."
Central bank governor Tito Mboweni said on Tuesday during the announcement
of the appointment of Mminele that President Jacob Zuma has informed him of the
decision and Mminele's term would be five years from July.
Mminele joins the other two deputy governors, Dr Xolile Guma and Dr Renosi
Mokate.
Said Mminele on his appointment during a press briefing: "I understand the
appointment comes with a lot of responsibility and hard work."
