Johannesburg - A new report will measure the difference in income in terms of race and gender in the workplace, the department of labour said on Thursday.
"This initiative... will help map out a clear picture on the future of the labour market in South Africa and how it changes the economic dynamics," the department's collective bargaining manager, Thembinkosi Mkalipi, said in a statement.
"Captains of industry in South Africa generally support endeavours designed to promote equity, but what is lacking are the results."
He said the report would focus on top Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) listed companies.
The 12th Commission on Employment Equity (CEE) Annual Report would be released next year.
The 11th CEE report found that black people only represented about 17% of top management in most companies and about 36% at a senior management level.
The CEE aims to eliminate unfair discrimination in employee salaries.
