Pretoria - The government on Wednesday offered trade unions a 6% salary hike during negotiations.
While the offer was not formally lodged at the Public Service Bargaining Council in Centurion, Public Service Association spokesperson Manie de Clercq confirmed the offer had been made.
"It has not been done officially at the council, but government has increased its offer to 6%," De Clercq said.
The unions were demanding an 8% increase and De Clercq said negotiations would continue on Thursday.
Comment could not be immediately obtained from government.
