Johannesburg - South Africa has signed an agreement with Iran allowing greater exchange of goods and services, International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said on Thursday.
This came after negotiations in Pretoria with her Iranian counterpart, Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The agreement was signed at the 11th session of the Joint Commission between the two countries.
Nkoana-Mashabane said in a statement South Africa and Iran had much in common.
"Our two countries share compatible economies that can benefit from greater trade, skills transfer, technology research and development."
South Africa's relationship to Iran was important as that nation had played a significant role in South Africa's liberation struggle, she said.
