Four arrested traders released

Pretoria -The SA Informal Traders Forum [SAITF] and Tshwane Barekisi Forum have welcomed the release of four traders that where arrested on 8 January when police allegedly shot and killed another trader, Foster Rivombo.

The four had been charged with public violence after they stopped the Tshwane metro police from driving away with an injured Foster who they had allegedly shot at the corner of Bosman and Scheidding streets.

The two forums said two traders were released immediately after the State withdrew charges. The two other traders would remain in custody while the department of home affairs confirmed their citizenship status.

Court roll

The forums called on the City of Tshwane to stop the harassment and unlawful arrest of traders.

They said on 15 January the metro police assaulted and arrested three traders at Bosman station.  Their case was not placed on the court roll and they were released on Thursday.

The statement said: "We call on the mayor and others in Tshwane to be transparent on how trading licences were being handled."
