Durban - KwaZulu-Natal Grade R teachers will get their salary increment before the end of November, Sadtu said on Friday.
"We have reached an agreement with the department and teachers will be paid before the end of this month," said SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) provincial secretary Mbuyiseni Mathonsi.
Teacher unions last week criticised the department for failing to implement the increment.
MEC Senzo Mchunu announced during his budget speech in April that Grade R teachers' salaries would be increased from R2 500 to R3 000 a month.
The Grade R teachers did not get the 7.5 % salary increment enjoyed by other teachers and education staff because their wages were determined by the education MEC, and not in the bargaining council.
Mathonsi said the department had not given them a clear explanation why there was a delay.
"It is unacceptable that they delayed the implementation. They have treated teachers with disdain," he said.
He said Sadtu would demand for a living wage of R4 600 for Grade R teachers.
