Johannesburg - The retail price of all grades of petrol will decrease by three cents per litre on Wednesday May 6, the
Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Thursday.
This follows an increase of between 31c and 36c per litre last month and a 45c a litre increase the previous month.
Diesel prices however will increase, with 0.05% sulphur going up eight cents per litre and 0.005% sulphur by six cents per litre.
Wholesale paraffin will also increase by 13c and illuminating paraffin by 17c per litre.
Petrol in Gauteng now costs 735c a litre from 738c before, and it is now 711c at the coast from 714c before.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin increased.
The average rand/US dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 7 March 2009 to 29 April 2009 was 9.1531 compared to 10.0655 during the previous period.
