Johannesburg - All managers in the Gauteng transport department will have to obtain clearance from the state security agency, said MEC Ismael Vadi according to the SABC.
Vadi was addressing the legislature in Johannesburg.
He said security vetting would also be extended to other management layers in the department, the broadcaster reported.
His office was also involved in finalising the regulatory procedures for managing tenders.
"We have come to the conclusion that the single most important issue is the perceived negative public image of the department. Whether it is true or not, the perception exists that the department's procurement and tender processes lack integrity and transparency.
"And today we want to focus especially on this matter and to report on the measures we have instituted to change this negative perception," Vadi said.
