Bloemfontein - Government should scrap the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and introduce free education for all, the EFF said on Tuesday.
"The NSFAS should be scrapped and free education be introduced for all until the first tertiary degree," party member Barnard Joseph told the party's elective conference at the University of the Free State's Bloemfontein campus.
He was reporting back to delegates on the outcome of discussions by a commission on health and education.
The basic education and higher education departments should be merged into one department and the pass mark at schools be set at 50%, he said.
The party should establish a bursary fund to help its members with studies, Joseph said.
On health, the party wanted government to establish a state pharmaceutical company and terminate the use of private pharmaceutical companies.
"Health care should be free and accessible for all. Government should pass policy that compels public servants to use state hospital and clinics instead of private healthcare."
Joseph called for the legalisation of dagga for medicinal use.
