Johannesburg - The SA Reserve Bank (Sarb) has appointed Pradeep Maharaj to the newly-created position of chief operating officer (COO) with effect from November 1.

The COO will be responsible for the support services cluster of the Reserve Bank.

Maharaj has been head of human resources and transformation of Absa Capital since November 2011.

Prior to joining Absa Capital he was the group executive for human resources and strategy at Transnet‚ and previously held various positions in the Gauteng provincial government department of finance and economic affairs.

Maharaj holds a bachelor of accounting science from the University of SA (Unisa) and a senior executive programme certificate from Harvard and Wits Business Schools.

Head of group strategy and communications at the Reserve Bank Hlengani Mathebula said that the Reserve Bank welcomed Maharaj and “takes this opportunity to wish him well as he takes up his new challenges and responsibilities”.
