Johannesburg - The South African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (Sactwu) said on Monday that it had successfully interdicted Simunye Clothing in Newcastle from retrenching workers.
The judgment was handed down on Friday in the Durban Labour Court.
"The Honourable Justice Cele ruled that the company is to comply with a fair procedure in the event of it proposing retrenchments, that the employer is interdicted and restrained from dismissing any of the employees without complying with the requirements of the Labour Relations Act, (and) ordered the employer to reinstate any workers already retrenched," it said.
Simunye Clothing is owned by Alex Liu, the chairperson of the Newcastle Chinese Chamber of Commerce, who according to Sactwu is intent on the "willy nilly" dismissal of workers.
"We are determined to fight such unfairness," said Sactwu.
