Johannesburg - South Africa's headline producer inflation (PPI) quickened to 7.7% year-on-year in February from 7.0% in January, Statistics South Africa said on Thursday.
Economists polled by Reuters had predicted PPI would quicken slightly to 7.25%.
Prices at the factory gate rose by 1.3% on a month-on-month basis in February, compared with 1.0% previously, and against market forecasts of a 0.8% rise.
Stats SA releases five industry-specific producer price indices, with final manufactured goods representing the headline number.
