Johannesburg - SA Breweries [JSE:SAB] is still waiting for feedback from the Food and Allied Workers' Union (Fawu) on its final pay offer, the company said on Wednesday.
"There are currently no negotiations underway or planned, as SAB is awaiting response from Fawu on its final offer," spokesperson Robyn Chalmers said in a statement.
Fawu began an indefinite strike at SAB on Monday, demanding a 9% wage increase across the board.
SAB has offered 7%, which would increase the average monthly pay for shift workers by R1 196, to R18 283.
Fawu general secretary Katishi Masemola said the employer's offer entailed a split of a 60% across the board increase, and a 40% non-guaranteed, performance-based component.
SAB human resources director Yokesh Maharaj said: "SAB is a world class company, paying world class wages and we expect world class performance."
Chalmers said most employees had reported for duty, with just over a fifth of bargaining unit employees, or 730 workers, participating in the strike on Tuesday.
