SA suffers deficit blow

Johannesburg - South Africa's trade account dipped back into deficit in April, recording a shortfall of R1.9bn compared with a R460m surplus in March, the South African Revenue Service said on Monday.

Sars said in a statement that exports fell by 14.29% to R44.17bn compared with the previous month, while imports fell by 9.83% to R46.06bn.

Economists polled by Reuters had predicted a R2bn deficit in the trade account, which was close to the outcome.
