Cape Town - South African must hold firm to the ideals of justice and peace that former president Nelson Mandela has left behind, the SA Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers' Union (Saccawu) said on Friday.
"While for many of us a part of us had also died with his passing, we believe a part of him must be reborn in all of us to honour his legacy," union spokesman Mike Abrahams said in a statement.
"Saccawu, like the whole country and the world, knew this day will come, but we are not less shocked, nor less sad with the loss of the greatest son Africa and South Africa has given birth to."
Abrahams said Mandela would always remain in the hearts of citizens.
Mandela died at the age of 95 at his home in Houghton on Thursday night.
