According to tobacco export figures released by the Tobacco
Industry and Marketing Board, South Africa is the leading buyer of
Zimbabwean tobacco having bought 8.4 million kilograms of tobacco valued at US$25.9m.
The United Arab Emirates follows with 2.8m kg, while China is
fourth with 1.9m kg.
By this time last year, China was the leading buyer of
Zimbabwean tobacco while South Africa was in fourth position.
The average price paid by South Africa is $3.08/kg, slightly lower than the Chinese price of $8.63/kg.
Overall, Zimbabwe has sold $111.2m worth of tobacco from 30.1m kg.
