Johannesburg - Employment prospects in the labour market are looking up.
About 22% of 750 South African employers who participated in Manpower South Africa's quarterly survey on expectations in the labour market expect to hire more workers in the first quarter of next year than in the last quarter of 2009.
On the other hand, 68% of employers expect no net change to their total hiring, and 9%-odd predict a decline in the same period.
The proportion of employers anticipating they will increase their workforce in the first quarter of the new year is currently about twice that seen three months ago.
Firms involved in agriculture - including the hunting, forestry and fishing industries - and electricity are expecting to do the most hiring.
