Russia wants to do business with SA

Johannesburg - The ANC's Progressive Business Forum (PBF) has returned from a week-long visit to Russia, where it discussed business opportunities, it said on Wednesday.

The 50 members returned on Sunday evening, said PBF head Renier Schoeman.

Among them were ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe, treasurer general Zweli Mkhize, deputy minister in the presidency Obed Bapela and KwaZulu-Natal premier Senzo Mchunu.

They held meetings with Russian delegates in Moscow and St Petersburg, said Schoeman.

In one of the meetings, Bapela encouraged the Russians to do business with South Africa.

Bapela said the National Development Plan (NDP) could enhance business relations between the countries.

He also encouraged the business representatives of both countries to familiarise themselves with the opportunities offered by the NDP.

The Russian delegates said their country was interested in doing business with South Africa.

Schoeman said the Russians made presentations on ship-building, machine-building, mining, banking, finance, transportation and production.

Mantashe told them the PBF was a powerful vehicle for bringing businesses from both sides together to explore opportunities, Schoeman said.
