Johannesburg - Growth in South Africa’s retail sales quickened to 8.3% year-on-year (y/y) at constant prices in September from an upwardly revised 7.7% in August, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis retail sales were up 1.8% in September. Stats SA said retail sales grew by 6.3% in the three months to September, compared with the same period a year ago, also at constant prices.
Economists polled by Reuters last week expected retail sales growth to slow to 6.3% y/y in September.
