Johannesburg - Money has been dedcuted from the bank account of a Pretoria woman before the implementation of the e-tolling system, according to a report on Friday.
Hannelie Kolbe bought her e-tag on April 12 in Lynnwood and a day later R2460 was deducted from her account, she told the Beeld newspaper.
She had phoned the e-tolling call centre but did not get any help.
"They could only give me their customer complaint number and did not know when the problem would be corrected," she said.
Kolbe said she had not even fitted the e-tag on her car when the transaction went through.
Salahdin Yacoubie from the Electronic Tolling Collection (ETC) consortium, the company responsible for collecting the toll fees, told the publication that the transaction could not be seen on their system.
"We do not know what happened, but are currently trying to go through all queries and complaints that we received in April."
The SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) were also trying to establish what happened.
The implementation of the e-tolling system on Gauteng's highways was postponed for a month by the transport department and Sanral on Thursday.
The announcement was made after the African National Congress and the Congress of SA Trade Unions said they would ask the government for a month-long delay.
E-tolling was to have been implemented on 185 kilometres of highway in Johannesburg and Tshwane on Monday.
