Cape Town - The services of the CEO of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), Jacob Modise, have "been terminated with immediate effect", the fund said on Thursday.
"The board decided not to renew his contract," RAF spokesperson Connie Nel told Sapa.
She said he had left on Thursday.
"He left today; he is no longer in office."
Modise's contract was to expire at the end of this year.
Asked if the termination could be construed as a dismissal, or what the reasons were for Modise's sudden departure, Nel declined to comment.
In a short statement issued later on Thursday evening, she said the fund's customer service network executive, Mandla Mvelase, had been appointed acting CEO "pending a procedure to identify and appoint a new CEO".
