Johannesburg - Director general in the national department of public works, Siviwe Dongwana, has been suspended, the department said on Wednesday.
"The DG's suspension stems from charges relating but not restricted to insubordination, dereliction of duty, failure to discharge official duties and bringing the department into disrepute," said Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde.
The suspension is with full pay. Mahlangu-Nkabinde emphasised Dongwana's innocence until he was proven guilty.
"The transparent and fair process of an official hearing should complete its work within the three months' suspension period."
Sam Vukela, the deputy DG of corporate services in the department, has been appointed acting DG for the next three months, she said.
