Johannesburg - South Africa's headline producer inflation quickened more than expected to 6.6% year-on-year in July from 5.9% in June, Statistics South Africa said on Thursday.
Prices at the factory gate rose by 0.7% on a month-on-month basis in July from 0.8% in June.
Economists polled by Reuters had expected PPI to quicken to 6.3% year-on-year in July.
Since January, Statistics SA has released five industry-specific producer price indices, with final manufactured goods representing the headline number.
