Johannesburg - A wage agreement for the private security sector which secured an 8.5% increase for workers was welcomed by the Federation of Unions of SA on Tuesday.
"Fedusa affiliates together with a number of additional unions form majority representation in the private security sector, and therefore the terms of this agreement will be applicable for all workers in this sector," said Professional Transport Workers Union spokesperson Reckson Baloyi in a statement.
The negotiations were aimed at ensuring workers were able to cope with escalating living costs, and the three-year agreement was signed on Monday by the majority of unions.
Baloyi said that the Basic Conditions of Employment and Labour Relations Acts are in the process of being amended.
The core principles behind these amendments include those of equal pay for equal work, equal benefits and conditions of service.
