Johannesburg - A former SA Revenue Service (Sars) employee has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment for fraud, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Wednesday.
Western Cape provincial spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said Tania du Toit was sentenced on Tuesday in the Bellville Regional Court.
She was found guilty on 56 counts of fraud.
She created fictitious taxpayers on the Sars computer system and then created false tax refunds, which were paid into her account.
The scam cost Sars more than R480 000.
