Pretoria - The Public Protector's report on maladministration at Prasa will help put claims of impropriety to rest, the parastatal's board chairperson said on Monday.
"We do think it will help us to put to rest what has been an albatross around our necks for a long time," Popo Molefe told reporters after the release of Thuli Madonsela's report, entitled Derailed.
The report would be tabled before the board and carefully considered. Further steps would then be decided on, he said. He did not elaborate.
Madonsela's report details 32 complaints against Prasa, most of them involving maladministration relating to tenders totalling R2.8bn. Madonsela found 19 of them were substantiated. Another three would be the subject of reports in future.
The National Transport Movement, which was involved in bringing the complaints against Prasa, said it felt vindicated.
Prasa's previous board had failed to act against former CEO Lucky Montana a long time ago, it said in a statement signed by general secretary Ephraim Mphahlele and his deputy Craig Nte.
"In delaying the action against Mr Montana the previous board created the environment for Mr Montana and his cronies to continue maladministration, corruption, and wasteful expenditure."
