Johannesburg - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is taking too long to release a report on alleged mismanagement in the SA Post Office, the trade union CWU said on Friday.
"Our frustration with the public protector led us to approach Parliament's portfolio committee on justice and constitutional development in January 2014 for intervention," Communication Workers Union general secretary Thabo Mogalane told journalists in Johannesburg.
The union approached Madonsela's office in 2011 to investigate alleged irregularities at the Sapo and maladministration.
"Despite the public protector's promise to release a report on their investigation by September 2012, the deadline which was later shifted to July 2013 and then November 2013, we have not received any report three years down the line," he said.
On Wednesday, presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj said President Jacob Zuma had directed the Special Investigating Unit to probe alleged serious maladministration, improper conduct by Sapo officials, and unlawful appropriation or spending of public money.
Other allegations to be probed included malpractice, damage to public property, management of immovable property, and loans granted to the Courier and Freight Group.
Mogalane said the union welcomed the SIU probe and hoped it would go deeper into the affairs of the Sapo.
Madonsela's spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi said the investigation into the affairs at the Sapo was underway.
"The allegations are still being investigated by the public protector's office. There has been hiccups, but the investigation is underway," she said.
