Durban - Metro police in Durban collected about R308 630 for outstanding traffic fines during roadblocks at the weekend, police said on Tuesday.
“More than R308 630 worth of outstanding traffic fines was collected from various roadblocks that were held over the weekend,” said Durban metro police spokesperson Eugene Msomi.
The roadblocks were aimed at dealing with motorists who did not take advantage of the 50% discount period which ended at the end of last month, he said.
“More than 285 vehicles were stopped at various locations within the municipality and 75 motorists were arrested,” he said.
Msomi said one motorist had to pay R31 000 in outstanding traffic fines.
“The enforcement on outstanding fines is ongoing and metro police will continue to ensure that motorists comply with the law.”
