Johannesburg - The department of public works is yet to
furnish Pilgrim's Rest business owners, in Mpumalanga, with tender documents
more than two months since they were granted an order preventing their
evictions, according to report on Thursday.
The Sowetan reported that the department had not yet
furnished business owners with the tender documents they need to apply for a
full review.
The department issued eviction notices to 17 business owners
in June to make way for new tenants.
However, the court found the tendering process flawed,
corrupt and racially motivated.
Judge Stanley Makgoba granted the business owners an order
stopping their eviction, which was to be effected at the beginning of last
month, pending a full review of the tender process.
Chairperson of the town's chamber of business Marius Brummer
said they have not received the documents they had requested from the
department.
"We have not received anything, and we are not getting
any feedback from the department, but everything continues as normal in
Pilgrim's Rest," he said.
The leases were also the subject of an investigation by the Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
