The oversupply of golf estates has claimed another victim.
Johannesburg - About 20 Engen fuel stations across South Africa have run dry, the refinery said on Monday.
"Most of the affected stations are inland, including Gauteng," spokesperson Tania Landsberg said.
All grades of fuel are affected by the shortage, but diesel is the biggest concern.
"The shortage started last week and was as a result of a combination of things, including planned and unplanned maintenance shutdowns at Engen refineries.
"During the shutdown, we weren't able to pull products into the supply chain."
However, matters are improving, Landsberg said.
"We are going to monitor the situation day by day."
